Secrets from a Business Warrior
Welcome to Episode 28 of the Business Revolution business podcast. We live in the most entrepreneurial time in history. Today, increasing numbers of people are making the decision to blaze their own trail in life. Part of the impulse driving this comes from a dissatisfaction with the status quo. In this episode I interview Mike Agugliaro, a man who is about as unconventional as I have ever known. He definitely marches to his own drummer and has created a life that is decidedly his own. He’s an author, coach, speaker, and founder of Gold Medal Service, a highly respected home services company, which, in the last ten years, he has grown less than one million dollars a year to 32 million projected for this year. Mike has also successfully mentored and coached many business owners by creating profitable business models and actionable processes for their business. His business podcast, CEO Warrior, and his books, products, and events are dedicated to helping Service Industry owners. He shares with them the same blueprint that guided his business to 32 million. He transforms worn out owners into ass-kicking Warriors with a fiery passion for their businesses.
Many of us as entrepreneurs fear that being our true self may be a turnoff to customers. We adopt a professional persona at the office that we feel is required of us rather than who we truly are. This can be manifested by being the ultra-tough boss, as one example. Then we go home and become someone totally different. The reality is, we are different people in different situations, for example, as parents, friends, spouses, neighbors, employers, etc. Perhaps we have had the experience of looking in the mirror and realizing that we are miserable because we are trying to be someone we are not. In practice, most of us with a public persona like that are rarely like that in real life – quite the opposite. In this business podcast interview, Mike encourages us to pursue our dreams by discovering our authentic self, and integrating our home and work lives to bring them in line with our values and purpose.
According to Mike, the real truth is that before doing business with us, customers want to know what drives us. People are naturally attuned to whether someone is being authentic or not. By staying true to our values, we can build trust and attract the right customers. Authenticity is hugely important for entrepreneurs! Mike challenges us to be honest and discover which version of ourselves is the one we are proudest of and resonate best with, and to seek what makes us vulnerable. The most successful leaders, Mike says, are the ones who invest in exploring themselves through formal paid (or unpaid) coaching or mentoring, and speaking regularly with peers through networks. These are spaces we can be open, learn about ourselves and others, and genuinely become stronger leaders as a result. So stop thinking and acting with your herd. Seek your own joy! Be yourself; now that’s good for business.
